Mock Trail Update

Our team (Charlotte, Leila, Johnathan, Samaha, Luke B, Aria, Alex G and Zoe) have been preparing for the big competition on the Saturday 23rd March. We would be competing against many schools in a court room, with our prosecution against their defence and vice versa. A magistrate has come in to guide us and give us a little bit of advice. We ran through the entire procedure and she gave us tip. We are very grateful for her help and as the day is edging closer and closer, we are beginning to get even more excited! We’ve had various meetings, devising questions, analysing the statements and practising for the big day. I think I speak for all of us, when I say… Bring it on!

Post - Mock Trial

The day we had all been waiting and practising for finally came. On Saturday 23rd March, we met at Regent Centre at 8:00am (very early, I know!) Miss Pink was there to guide us and support us and my mam also came to watch. We arrived at Newcastle Crown Court, along with many other schools (all eager to win). We were led up to the third floor and took a seat outside court number 4. Out of the many schools that we could have been against, we were against my dad’s school: Benfield. Now the battle was on!

We were only against Benfield on the first performance where I was the prosecution lawyer. It went very well. Each person was scored out of 10, based on their performance or also their questions, if they were a lawyer. We are going to be sent the scores of each person in our school and the anticipation is overwhelming us Hopefully, we will be sent the scores soon.

Our next performance was against a different school; I was a magistrate in this one. It also went well and afterwards we went down to the café. The top two schools were announced, it wasn’t us but we didn’t mind because we were all so proud of ourselves. You don’t really beat the school you a playing; there isn’t a winner or a loser, you are just scored and the scores determine the ultimate winner! Although I am adamant that we beat my dad’s school!  A big thank you to Newcastle Crown court and all the staff for organising this fantastic experience and thank you to Miss Pink for supporting and helping us.
