Rock Nativity...going out on a high

Since the end of the last school year, the current Year 6, 7 and 8s have been practising for ‘Rock Nativity’. Ms Hodgson and Miss Thompson worked even harder to direct the show and help it become as great as it was. They stayed after school, sacrificed their lunchtimes and missed lessons to prepare for the show. Lots of teachers and students helped with the show like Mr Thompson who made the costumes, Aria who designed the programme and some pupils who worked hard backstage.

The 11th and 12th of December, the nights that we had all been waiting for, finally arrived. Rock Nativity was, obviously, a musical about the nativity with a little darker theme and some fantastic songs. A special shout out to Sophie who filled in as one of the wise men on Tuesday night. It was a great success and was enjoyed by over 300 of our family and friends.

“I really enjoyed doing the show,” – Natasha, Mary, “It was amazing to compare the experience when rehearsals first started to the end result.”

“It was really fun to do and the songs were great.” – Alice, a Wise Man

“It was lots of fun to do and it was a great way to get into the Christmas spirit.” Sophie, teacher/wise man and Freya, teacher.

“I really enjoyed being part of the band.” – Ella, played the clarinet in the band.

We would like to say a special GEMS thank-you to Ms Hodgson. Mr Stout announced that this would be her last show. She has    directed many successful productions including, most recently, Bugsy Malone and Dracula Spectacular. Many people even believed that their Christmas started by seeing Rock Nativity. Her enthusiasm and expertise will be missed but she certainly left on a high.

Thank-you Ms Hodgson
