A Film of Pure Beauty

On Monday 13th November, a group of Year Sixes and Year Fives had an excellent opportunity to go and watch the new ‘Beauty and the Beast’ film (staring Emma Watson) at the Gate (Cineworld). We brought packed lunches and ate them in the cinema at an unusual time – 11am. The film was incredibly interesting; it was a surprise how the directors and producers changed the film to focus more on real life rather than a Disney story. We also thought that all the make-up and clothes made the characters seem realistic, even though not all of them were! The Beast in particular seemed more realistic than anyone else and he was portrayed by a fantastic actor Dan Stephens.

The Storyline

‘Beauty and the Beast’ is about a young woman called Belle, in a small village located in France. Her father leaves the village to sell things and encounters a magical castle, where ordinary household items comes alive! But he didn't know that a hideous beast inhabited the castle. After picking a rose for Belle he is forced, by the beast, to serve a life sentence deep in the dungeon of the castle. But of course Belle comes to his rescue and willingly takes his place, as the beast’s prisoner. After a while, the beast and Belle develop a friendship that eventually turns to love, even though she was his prisoner. As the village ‘bad lad’ (Gaston) tries to kill the beast, Belle realises how much she loves him. By giving him a kiss of true love, he turns back from a beast into a prince.

What a brilliant trip to see a brilliant film. Also an important lesson to learn… beauty, or the lack of it, is just skin deep.
