Sister Schools Unite

On Monday morning, we had the pleasure of welcoming our  Chinese visitors, both teachers and students . With all of GEMS wearing the Chinese lucky colour (red), we greeted them warmly. The house captains prepared an assembly; it significantly captured what GEMS is all about and informed our guests about Newcastle – home of the Geordies- ‘Whey aye man’

Our new friends and the stunning Bambugh Castle

A buddy to rely  on

A buddy was assigned to each Chinese student, who guided them through their wonderful experience at our school. The buddies also shadowed them on some of the various trips that our visitors were lucky enough to go on. These trips resulted in a better understanding of British culture to complement the knowledge of the language they already had: their ability to speak English was already outstanding.

Throughout their visit, which took place form the 5th- 13th June, they gained new knowledge and most importantly new friends. A big thanks to all buddies who supported their Chinese student all the way.

Emotional Farewells

And talking about friendship, on the last day of the visit, an assembly was organised by the Chinese students and teachers. This was not only to show their many differed talents but also to show their gratitude towards GEMS. Emotions were running high, as the entire hall, both GEMS and our visitors, were welling up. With tears trickling down faces, a Chinese teacher assured us that ‘we are sister schools - Dandi Experimental School and Gosforth East Middle School. We are now family and will not forget each other.’ A big farewell to our visitors. We hope they will soon be back or maybe we can meet them again in China!
