Heaven Eyes
In March a lucky group of Year 6 pupils got to go to the People’s Theatre to see an adaption of the book ‘Heaven Eyes’ by David Almond. It was performed by Théâtre Sans Frontières. The trip was to inspire us for a story writing competition with the title ‘The Journey’.

The play was different to plays I’ve seen in the past. It was quite sad as it was based on 3 young orphans who were living in a children’s home after their parents died. The kids decide to escape on a raft down the River Tyne.
The children escape to a mysterious swamp-like island where they meet Heaven Eyes, a young girl who lives on the island with her grandpa. As the play continues we learn Heaven Eyes’ story and what happens to the children.
The students who went described the show as intriguing and enjoyable. As David Almond had hoped, we have been inspired by the story for the writing competition which he judges himself. We have just started planning our stories for the deadline on the 26th of April.
