GEMS are having a winter festival to celebrate the creative arts. It will be an inter-house competition and pupils are invited to submit a writing composition, a photo, a poem, a piece of music or a drama.
We have so many phenomenally talented pupils in GEMS and we want to celebrate and showcase that talent. We are going to invite members of the wider school community to experience some of the talent we have across our school at our Winter Festival on Friday 17th February.
In order to allow time for them to be judged, all entries must be submitted by 3.30pm on Friday 10th February. There will be a reduction in homework over the next two weeks to allow children more time to work on their entries.
It is an opportunity for all pupils to play a part in displaying what happens in our fantastic school, and we are expecting all children to submit an entry.
Everybody loves a bit of healthy competition!
We are ready to heavily reward excellent work in the Arts. But, which House has what it takes to be named ‘Most Creative House, Winter 2017’?
Davison? Robson? Stephenson? Darling?
Who has what it takes?
Writing Competition
Pupils can choose to write:
- A poem inspired by the winter season
- A narrative (story) set in winter
- A description of a wintry scene
Or, perhaps you want to decide what you want to write. Creativity is invited!
We are looking forward to submissions from as many pupils as possible. The more quality submissions we receive, the more Iris points your child's House will collect.
We have some exceptional writers here. Some are just beginning to express themselves in new ways; some could have 3 novels published by now; some are looking for the perfect opportunity to show what they are made of. All of them are writers.
Your child's teachers will tell them more about the entry requirements.
25 Iris Points to the winner
15 Iris Points to second place in each Key Stage
10 Iris Points to third place
5 Iris Points for every submission that has all of the basic entry requirements.
All work meeting this standard will be displayed at the Winter Festival event.
We are really keen to shine a light on our writing skills but would also encourage you to engage with the other Arts, so we're also having:
A whole-school winter photography competition!
Get snapping!
A perfectly-posed, arty shot or a lucky encounter with a robin in your back garden? It doesn’t matter- they all count!
15 Iris Points will go to each of the photographers placed in the Final 12.
5 Iris Points will go to everyone meeting the entry criteria.
Mr Rawlingson is available tell your child some top tips.
A written description of 60 words (minimum) must be included for submission to count.
