5SL Trinity Church Trip
On Wednesday December 7th we had a lovely visit to Trinity Church. When we got there we met Peter, Peter (there were two peters!), Hazel, Mary and Jeremy and learned a bit about the history of the church. It was built in 1877 and other parts were added about 10 years ago in 2006.

Firstly, we played a little game around the church. We all had a list of numbers on a clipboard and the numbers were dotted around the church on pieces of paper. We had to find them and guess the theme e.g. number 3 was on an organ, music stand and a drum kit. The theme was music.
Our favourite places were the prayer tree and the camera place. The prayer tree was a metal tree that had stained glass leaves. People would stick post-it notes on and write a prayer on them. So when people come they can pray for the things that some of the writers have written down.
There was also a prayer pool. It’s a jar full of water and pebbles. You take a pebble and put it in the water and pray on it. It’s almost like a solid prayer! We went to a lantern room, the balcony (Minstrel Gallery) and Tyne hall. (Each room at the back of the church was named after a river.) Then we went to sit on the pews. They had green bibles at the end of each pew.
Particularly interesting was the big blue pool where teenagers and grown-ups are baptised. Children who are 9 and over can choose whether they’d like to go in the bath or have holy water sprinkled on their head in the shape of a cross. What happens is you go into the bath with two other people who will lift you gently and tip you under the water so when you come up it is like coming into a new world. Last but definitely not least we went outside to have a look around there. It is looking particularly beautiful there at the moment especially when it is dark and the Christmas lights are on.
