On Monday 6th and Monday 13th June, year 5 went to…   The Rising Sun Country Park. During the day there were 3 activities: den building, making bread and making flour. In den building we built dens! It was really fun and the time flew by so before we knew it, it was lunchtime. We found out that a lot of rabbits that lived there that needed to be toilet trained so instead of relaxing, some people spent their lunchtime avoiding rabbit droppings. After lunch there was also a bread making session where we were told a very simple recipe for making bread. When it was ready to cook, a member of staff set up the campfire on which we cooked the bread. Before we ate the bread, some people said they didn’t want to eat the bread plain. Luckily, there was honey which in my opinion, was delicious.

Finally, there was a session where we made flour from the wheat. There were three parts to making the flour; threshing, winnowing and grinding. First, we separated the seeds from the stems. Next, we separated the seeds from the covering. Finally we ground the seeds to get to the flour. We thoroughly enjoyed the trip and got a little bit of an idea what it would have been like to live in the Stone Age.
