Coming soon to GEMS a new housing system. Instead of three houses, there will be four, all of which are named after an inspirational person from the North East. The idea for new houses has been around for a while, but school council now wants to drive it through. We all think it is a great idea for GEMS because it helps the members of GEMS to know why these people have been chosen to represent our houses.

Some candidates we all like are Bobby Robson, Grace Darling, Gertrude Bell, William Armstrong, George Stevenson and Alan Shearer. School Council have been asking members of GEMS to fill in a form telling them who they think would be good for the job! The people that have been nominated all have different qualities which make them good candidates. Many have done lots of charitable work and helped people in need as well as having sporting or other talents. Importantly there are some women on the shortlist.

School council has been working hard to put this new housing system into place; they have been sorting out the votes, explaining the new idea to the classes and getting everyone else involved by getting them to nominate their candidates for the new house figurehead.

Hopefully this exciting change will be in action by the start of the new school year!
