GEMS are having a winter festival to celebrate the creative arts. It will be an inter-house competition and pupils are invited to submit a writing composition, a photo, a poem, a piece of music or a drama.
Here they are in the courtroom. 12 year eight students are taking part in a mock trial so they can learn more about the justice system. This is their first visit in preparation for the 'real' mock trial. Look out for more details in the upcoming newsletter.
Sana and Alannah from 6NS, Charlie from 6HT and, last but not least, Dylan from 6PW went to the Centre for Life on Wednesday 9th November.
On Friday the 19th of November GEMS was thinking about diversity.
Diversity is everybody being different which is good. Some people, however, think being different is a bad thing. But if you think about it if we were all the same life would be very boring.
On the afternoon of the19th November pencil cases were put away and the pupils of GEMS got the chance to exercise some different muscles and develop some different skills. The activities on offer were...deep breath: film, recycling crafting, pom-pom animals, cross -stitch, nature walk, nature art, table tennis, reading, netball, trampolining, Lego story telling, Battle of the Bands, Computer games and board games, robotics, Elvis karaoke, French cooking and food tasting, drama, disco, beauty treatments.
On the 2nd and 5th of December, the Year 8s went on an engaging visit to Newcastle’s Castle Keep. The trip included a visit to the roof, where you could see most of Newcastle City and Gateshead spread out before you but, unfortunately, an appointment with the basement had to be made!
On Wednesday December 7th we had a lovely visit to Trinity Church. When we got there we met Peter, Peter (there were two peters!), Hazel, Mary and Jeremy and learned a bit about the history of the church. It was built in 1877 and other parts were added about 10 years ago in 2006.
As promised... More about Segedunum: When Year 6 went to Segedunum we were all so excited and our first view of the site was breath-taking. The staff there welcomed us with open arms and there were lots of things to do.
This event took place on the 12th of November when most parents of Year 5 pupils came into school to see the work that had been done by their sons and daughters during the term and especially in Topic.
On Thursday 10th of November, the day before Remembrance Day, 6NS got the chance to take part in a brilliant session of training with an army training instructor. This amazing session in PE included running, jumping and crawling through our assault course!
On Thursday 10th November, Lt Alex Shand of the Royal Electric and Mechanical Engineers (REME) joined us for a special remembrance assembly.
