Year 6 Visit to the Lambton Worm Workshop

On Wednesday the 25th of January, thirty year sixes went on a trip to the Tyne Theatre to a Lambton Worm Workshop.  When we got there we went into the auditorium (where plays are performed) and were shown to our seats.  We then did some interesting physical warm ups, including shaking our arms, hands and shoulders.  We also did some vocal warm ups which included meowing like a cat!  Next, we started practising the lyrics for the Lambton Worm song in parts.  There were about 7 parts to the song, (not including the chorus) and we practised them all.

After practising the song, we split into two equal groups.  The first group went into a room next to the stage to make some music to do with the Lambton Worm, where they used instruments including maracas, tamarins and even our own feet to make a song.  The 2nd group (my group) composed new lyrics to the tune of ‘Alice the Camel’.  We also did some silly dance moves to accompany the song.

After lunch some of the people from the university who had been helping with the workshop performed some music for us. This included violin, flute and guitar solos.  They were very good.  After the performances, the two groups swapped around the activities they had done before lunch so that everyone had a chance to do everything.  When we had finished, each group performed their own song and music for the other group to see what everyone had accomplished.

Finally, we said thank you to everyone who had helped us in the workshop and returned to school on the bus. In conclusion, I think that it was a brilliant trip, and I would definitely go again if I had the chance to.
