Ellen, with her world record certificates

Ellen in 8MR is another GEMS  student who is achieving great things. She earned a gold, a silver and a bronze swimming medal in the May Philips Down's Syndrome British Nationals in Rugby last term. She swam in 3 events. In the 100 individual medley Ellen improved her time by nearly 8 seconds, taking the gold in 1.58.92.In the 50 metre backstroke she earned a silver medal in another personal best time of 55.80. To round up her medal winning performance she earned a bronze medal in the 50 metre freestyle event.

She has enjoyed swimming since a baby and joined Gosforth Dolphins, aged 7. She swims at North East Disability Swim Club at Freeman Quays, Durham, where she is coached by Jo Barber.  The times Ellen swam qualified her to compete in the National Para Swimming Championships at the Manchester Aquatics Centre and we expect her to go onto bigger and better things.
