  • Rock Nativity...going out on a high

    Published 21/12/18

Since the end of the last school year, the current Year 6, 7 and 8s have been practising for ‘Rock Nativity’. Ms Hodgson and Miss Thompson worked even harder to direct the show and help it become as great as it was. They stayed after school, sacrificed their lunchtimes and missed lessons to prepare for the show. Lots of teachers and students helped with the show like Mr Thompson who made the costumes, Aria who designed the programme and some pupils who worked hard backstage.

We would like to thank both Marks and Spencer and Sainsbury’s  for contributing to the refreshments  served at the interval of Rock Nativity...the mince pies went down very well.

Thank-you also to Tesco who have donated lots of Halloween outfits to fit children from 12 months to 12 years.  They will be on sale  throughout next year at a bargain price of £3 with all money going towards the budget for costumes for future school performances.

On Monday 3rd of December, the Year Sevens and Eights were extremely lucky and went to the theatre for a Christmas treat- oh yes we did (sorry)! There were a number of coaches parked in the GEMS car park because there were so many children going to the pantomime. Once we all piled onto the coaches with our classes, we were already in the  festive spirit.

  • YEAR 5 TRINITY CHURCH CHRISTINGLE SERVICE

    Published 21/12/18

On the 12th of December, Year 5 went to the Trinity Church, to find out about Jesus, Joseph, Mary and the Christmas story. The Trinity church is on the high street, Year 5 had a 20-minute walk, and they were very excited. When they arrived, Year 5 went into the main part of the Church and met two ministers who said they would tell Year 5 about the Christmas. Then we were shown a mini movie called ‘The Noisy Neighbour’. It was about a mouse detective that was trying to find out who Jesus was. Next, we heard about the light of Jesus and what he means to a Christian’s life. As well as the light of Jesus and how he makes the world light the minister also talked about how sometimes the world can be dark. However, he said we should just let Jesus fix it not us. Because if we try to make the world better it is just going to become worse. When the man was talking, he had a big jug of water. When he was talking about the world being dark, he put lots of iodine in. Then when he was talking about us trying to make it light again he put yellow food dye in and it just made it darker. When he was talking about Jesus making the world light he got a cross, put it in the water, and mixed. It magically turned into a clear liquid again.

  • The Christmas Fair 2018

    Published 21/12/18

On the 4th of December GEMS had an amazing school fair. There were all sorts of stall like: Cake stalls, a crepe stall, a nerf gun stall, henna, a nail bar and many, many more. The fair went on from 2:00 to 4:30 and when it had nearly finished nearly all of the stalls were bare! Nearly every single class had a stall, to try and raise the most money for the school. Lots of children had a stall and they were all extremely successful. In total we raised £1,700. Wow what a number! Also who could forget the amazing gymnastics performance? In the gymnastics routine there were: Back flips, cheerleading, cartwheels, forward rolls, bridges, aerials and a lot more cool stuff. For this particular event we used both halls: the dining hall and the main hall; we even used the library! Now I’m really looking forward to Christmas. What a great start to December.
