  • World Book Day

    GEMS, yet again, saw the annual World Book Day celebration on Friday 3rd March 2017. Everyone came to school as their favourite book characters. There was a wide range of book characters from “Geek Girl” to “Harry Potter”. There was also a “favourite book competition” where pupils who took part found out the name of the teachers’ favourite books and whoever found the most would receive a prize.

  • Hands on learning: Hinduism

    On the 16th March, a Hindu Priest visited the school to talk about her religion and gave us the opportunity to ask our questions. The Year 8s who took part in this event said ‘We learned a lot more by talking to her than we would in a normal lesson; she was a really nice person and told us a lot about her religion.’

  • In September It Seemed So ‘Pharaoh’ Away… (sorry!)

    Throughout the entire year, students and teachers have been working non-stop to put on a spectacular performance of ‘Joseph and The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat’.

    Last year, Ms Hodgson and Miss Thompson held auditions to see who would get the much-coveted parts in the play. After lots of deliberation the roles were decided and rehearsals began. The props also were being made: everything from sheep to pyramids and cacti to lamp posts. There were lots of other ways that people got involved, such as Backstage, Front of House, Lighting and the Band. Abby and Noor also did a fantastic job in designing the front cover for the programme, which everyone received who came to see the play.

  • Gosforth Community Book Festival

    On the 17th March all Year 8s walked to Gosforth Central Middle School to listen to the author Dave Cousins. He has written books including ‘Charlie Merrick’s Misfits’, ’15 Days Without a Head’ and ‘Waiting for Gonzo’.

  • The Winter Festival

    To give everyone a chance to demonstrate their creative skills, GEMS organised a special event, the Winter Festival. Before the judging, the pupils of GEMS spent  their own time creating stories, taking pictures, writing and practising plays and songs to showcase the pupils’ fabulous talent.

  • 100% Attendance... Rewards

    In assembly on 17th January, Mr Adcock told us all about parties and trips which are being organised as rewards for good attendance. After every term there will be a party where everyone will celebrate their 100% attendance. Then, at the end of the year, there will be a trip to the beach and ice cream parlour to celebrate a whole year of full attendance.
