World Book Day

On Thursday 7th March, all the pupils of GEMS were a part of the annual World Book Day! On this day, pupils dress up as characters from various books. They get to choose and some of the costumes are very extravagant. Last year, one teacher dressed up as Mr Tickle from the Mr Men books! Everybody always enjoys themselves on this day.

GEMS has been participating in the World Book Day event for many years and often the people with the best costumes have their photographs taken. Everyone is always hopeful! A lot of the costumes are the same but some are different. I always try to aim for one of the ‘out of the box’ characters – a character that everybody knows but nobody thinks to dress up as. I’m sure a lot of other kids do that too.

This year the costumes were great! There were a lot of Harry Potter characters such as Harry, Ron, Hermione and Luna Lovegood. There were a few Victorians in the mix, and I saw a couple of Matildas, some Geek Girls and Ruby Redforts, and a lot of the teachers were very creative, such as Mr Dowman dressing up as the Mad Hatter. The winner of the teacher’s competition was Mr. Adcock and I actually won the costume contest for Year 6!!! It was a great day and we all enjoyed ourselves. There were some very creative costumes and we hope it will be just as fun next year!
