Food and fun at the Continental Market!

Some lucky people, for their effort and hard work, were picked to go to the Continental Market at Grey’s Monument. We tried all sorts of foods from all around the world, such as kangaroo, bratwurst sausage and paella that everyone especially enjoyed. There were sweet treats too like Churros, chocolate strawberries with chocolate bananas and chocolate-coated marshmallows. Everyone looked like they were loving it!

Making crepes at the French stall...merci beaucoup

We also looked at a Russian stall as well. The lady sold dolls that you could open and another one would be inside (Martyoshka dolls); we were all very surprized that the most expensive one she had was almost £1000. We realised that it was worth it when she told us it was all hand painted. The detail was amazing!

The Market manager, who showed us round, taught us how to say hello and goodbye in all the languages that we came across.  He also asked us questions about the countries for example what the names of the capital cities are.

We had lunch at one of the oldest buildings in Newcastle Alderman Fenwick’s House  built in 1781. A perfect place to rest our weary legs  though nobody was very hungry!

We had a great morning and recommend the Continental market. If you’ve missed it, put it in your diary for next year.
