Sports Leaders Tennis Event

At the beginning of this school year, a group of students applied to be Sports Leaders. For this role, pupils were required to organise, run and hold sporting events both inside and out of school. Recently, Steph and Ben, who run the school’s Kick Serve club, gave us a lesson in how to umpire and successfully run a tennis tournament. On Thursday 16th March and Thursday 23rd March, the Sports Leaders went to The Northumberland Club to judge and help out at a Tony Blair Tennis Foundation with pupils from local schools.

We arrived at school at 8:15 to get a coach to The Northumberland Club at 8:30. When we got there, we had a short go ourselves before greeting the pupils from 3 schools – Broadway East, Grange First and Regent Farm. The girls then split off from the boys and went to the courts with some of the Sports Leaders to play some matches. The boys went to the skills station to take part in some fun games and activities. Half way through, we switched over so the boys could play matches and the girls went to the skills station. Overall the pupils from the First Schools had lots of fun, and we all did too.

This was a prestigious event, which we all were honoured to be a part of. We all enjoyed working with younger students, however many times we were hit on the head with tennis balls! We would definitely want to be involved in similar activities in the future, as we thought it was an amazing experience which we all enjoyed.
