Lightwater Valley

One of the tamer rides: safe to loosen your grip and wave

On Friday the 8th of July to conclude our time at GEMS, most of year 8 ventured to the theme park Lightwater Valley.  This park is home to many rides, one of which is the Ultimate. This ride climbs to heights of 33m above ground and stretches over 2 kilometres across the North Yorkshire countryside. It reaches speeds of 80 km/h and lasts a whopping 7 minutes (which is long for a roller coaster… It is, promise…). It is also the longest roller coaster in Europe.

The park contains over 40 attractions, some of which are scary, some fairly tame, and some just outright crazy. I only experienced a handful of rides, which include, the before mentioned Ultimate, the Twister, the Flying Cutlass, the Falls of Terror, the go-carts and the Wild River Rapids.   My personal favourite was the highly acclaimed ultimate. I would recommend Lightwater valley for that ride on its own.

All the staff there were, as you would expect, responsible, vigilant and fun. Unfortunately, I didn’t see any of them, Miss Thompson, Mrs Hadfield, Miss O’Reilly and Mrs Cheape, on the rides themselves though I know they ventured on a few. My ‘group’ was too caught up with hanging on for dear life on the Flying Cutlass (Highly recommended ride).

The trip was amazing and the perfect way to conclude our time at middle school…all friends together.
