Scaling the Heights

On Tuesday 17th of June, some pupils from GEMS took part in a climbing competition.

Looking forward to the afternoon

On Tuesday 17th of June, some pupils from GEMS took part in a climbing competition. Mr Stout and Mr Dowman accompanied the children. Once the children got to ‘Climb Newcastle’, they were given special climbing shoes to make their 1st attempt to scale a climbing wall. They entered the room, which was separated into three parts, with all the climbing walls in it. The climbers were separated into 2 groups and they went to 2 separate areas. The challenge was on! They climbed and climbed, as you expect they would, to get as many points as possible. The climbing areas were swapped throughout the session. To get points you had to climb a wall and the points depended on how many attempts it took to get to the top; if you climbed a wall on your first attempt, you would get 10 points. It was so much fun even though most of the climbers had aching arms and legs at the end.  A brilliant afternoon for those tired climbers and best news of all Catherine of 8AD won the gold medal for under 16 girls and Michael of 6PW won the gold medal for the under 12 boys. Special Congratulations to them both.
