Still smiling, despite the long climb

 

At the end of last half term some members of Year 7 chose to go to Newlands on a residential outdoors adventure. The weather was perfect for the whole of the week and everyone who went had an amazing time; I hope it will be just as much fun for students in the years to come!

 

Here is a brief summary of the activities:

 

We went mountain biking around the valley with an ice-cream shop at the end (of course), canoeing in Derwent Water and played games like ‘Titanic’, jumping in and getting very wet and cold. I also enjoyed the mountain climb up ‘Catbells’ with Thunder and Lightning ice cream at the bottom. We also did archery, rock-climbing (and not on an indoor wall!), belaying and gyll scrambling which was colder than you can imagine. The hot showers at the end of the activity were keenly anticipated. There was also a high ropes course, Tarzan swing and lumber ladder in the woods: everyone enjoyed becoming monkeys and swing through the trees.

 

We all shared dormitories, with six people to a room, and woke up each morning to full English cooked breakfast (a main highlight of the trip). We had a three course meal each evening which filled us up ready for the evening activity. These were things like games outside, dodgeball, orienteering and many more followed by chilling in the common room and dormitories so that we were well rested for the next day’s activities.

 

Everyone who went had an amazing time.  If you are in Year 6 now, go on the Newland’s trip next year because it is exciting and so much fun. You will experience many new things and have fun with friends and teachers. (It’s also an easy way to get into Mr Jordan’s good books!)
