Newlands Adventure 2017

On the 12th - 16th of June, a group of year 7 pupils visited Newlands Adventure Centre in Keswick. The trip started with a 2-hour bus drive to the Lake District. When we eventually got there, our first activity was a team building exercise. This involved a lot of different tasks like, getting a ball to travel through a series of tubes, getting untied from some ropes and making a bridge to cross some stones.

Down the ghyll we go!

We were split into groups and all set off to do different activities. My first activity was ghyll scrambling. Despite the freezing cold water, ghyll scrambling was really fun. We swam, fell and slipped through the stream. At one point we jumped off a rock, and some people even jumped backwards. “ It was my favourite activity” said Joseph.

Another activity was walking up Cat Bells. We climbed the 451 meters high mountain on a hot day. It had a great view of Derwent Water. The hill took around two and a half hours to climb, with a couple of breaks on the way. At the end we all enjoyed an ice cream.

My favourite activity was the woods. In the woods we did a high ropes course, a Tarzan swing, a zip wire and more. “ The Tarzan swing was my favourite.” Said Charlotte. The Tarzan swing was a massive rope connected to the treetops. We stood on a platform and when we let go we swung all the way down to the river.

Other activities included archery, mountain biking, canoeing and climbing .

We returned on Friday afternoon, tired but happy. We all had a great time.
