Complicated Coding

On the 17th, 18th and 24th of May, pupils from Dinnington First School, Broadway East First School and Gosforth Park First School came to visit GEMS. During their visit, they took part in either computing, art or cookery. Everyone had a great time and we are sure they are all looking forward to coming to GEMS in September.

When Dinnington pupils came on the 17th May, their visit started with an assembly, which the whole school attended, to congratulate 4 of our Year 8 pupils who had taken part in, and won, a prestigious football tournament. After the assembly, the Year 4s were given a sticker with the activity  in which they  would participate.

One of the activities was art, run by Mr Rawlingson, ably assisted by Lucy and Zoe from Year 8. The group of pupils could choose whether to draw a cupcake, an ice lolly or a doughnut.  All of the work was completed to an amazing standard; we were very impressed with it all.

The second activity was computing with Mr Salkeld, with help from Jack and Solomoni from Year 8. They were playing ‘Rock, Paper, Scissors’ on MicroBits, and creating worlds on the coding game ‘Scratch’. All of the pupils looked like they’d had a great time.

The last activity was cookery with Miss Heathcote and lots of Year 6 helpers. They all had a fantastic experience making some delicious secret jam buns. Yum!

After some fabulous drawings, impressive coding and tasty jam buns, it was time for the Year 4 pupils to leave. We’re sure they’ll all love being at GEMS next year and we are looking forward to welcoming them  to our great school.
